Can you really maintain an outdoor ice rink?
Yes! It has been done before. In the winter of 2013 and 2014 an ice skating rink was maintained on the old tennis courts in Centennial park.
Is there interest?
Certainly. Residents of Chaffee County have been eager for ice skating and ice hockey. Over the past decade rumors of an ice rink have circulated around both Buena Vista and Salida.
Where will the rink be?
We’re working with all towns in Chaffee County; Salida, Poncha Springs, Nathrop and Buena Vista.
We are looking to fund the project through a P3 partnership (Private + Public + Partnership) to complete the rink in an efficient manner. IRCC is seeking private funding, along with state grants and local assistance from Chaffee County to complete the building and maintenance of the facility.
